Second Sunday Death Cafe
A write up of Second Sunday Death Cafe Portland, OR

We had a small but actively engaged group of interesting attendees at the Friends Meeting House. After enjoying tea and Marionberry Cake we launched into a wide-ranging conversation on death and dying. The group came from a variety of backgrounds and had many stories to relate. There was concern about the lack of openness in our culture to discuss death. Several people asked to hear more about how other cultures navigate the issue. We discussed planning a good death. Choosing and talking to an end of life advocate was interesting to several attendees. Advanced directives and POLST were discussed. Body disposal options were discussed. We spent lots of time considering how to discuss death with family. More experienced members had useful suggestions, and we offered suggestion on getting more information. I distributed our book guide and resource guide, and we considered where to find further reading material. We concluded with a discussion of action planning and future Death Cafe attendance. It was a growing experience.
