Manchester’s first Death Café

Hugh O’Brien and Liz Thompson hosted Manchester’s first Death Café at the Moor Club in Heaton Moor Stockport last night. We already had a lot of interest from local people, professionals and the press, in all 33 people came. People turned up not knowing what to expect but with an open mind and a willingness to engage.

We came together in the spirit of sharing and as a group created a space in which people felt able to talk openly.  We were a very diverse group which made it all the more interesting and there was enough knowledge in the room to easily answer people’s questions.

There was a buzz about the place that was almost tangible, people got to know each other and we said we’d mingle even more next time. There was so much to say and the evening flew by. At the end of the night the feedback was very positive with people saying “this has been much needed for a long time, thank you”, “this group has already helped me, I’m looking forward to the next one”, “I didn’t know what to expect but I’m so glad I came, It’s been wonderful”

Hugh and I are both passionate about the subject and are both looking forward to the next one very much.

Liz Thompson.

This DC sounds like it went really well. However Elizabeth Jackson and I held one at the Manchester Gestalt Centre last summer. We intend to hold another one in the same venue in the next few weeks. Very good that Manchester is so well served.
