Death Cafe Baltimore 2019 Writeup

Death Cafe Baltimore was presented at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) on March 28, 2019, and was scheduled from 5:00-6:30pm. Two facilitators, Valerie and Monica, two university employees who hosted the event, and twenty-five students and members of the community attended the meeting to discuss death & dying. Refreshments were provided, and the attendees were seated at separate tables throughout the room. They used some "ice breaker" questions to simply get the conversation started.

The attendees engaged in conversation for some time, and then a collective discussion took place. The attendees asked questions about advance directives and the status of "death with dignity" laws in some states. The attendees expressed that they enjoyed the event and that it was refreshing to have a discussion about death & dying in a stigma-free environment. They were encouraged to complete an online survey after the conclusion of the event. The co-facilitators have agreed to participate in another Death Cafe Baltimore event at UMB in 2020.

Ms

I am interested in deaf cafés in general as I move into old age, and its accompanying infirmities. And, because of the knowledge that death is coming for all of us.
I would like to learn to deal with it in a healthy way rather than with constant dread fear and panic.
