About Cindie Wilding:
I am a Certified Celebrant and Life Coach. I write unique and personal ceremonies for weddings or memorials, telling the story of the people involved. I believe in the absolute value of talking about feelings around death and sharing them with others. I believe in honoring those who have passed on by remembering them. I believe it is healthy to talk with others about our own passing.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
My desire to help create an open forum to talk about death. My own experiences with death at a young age and how it was not discussed led me to feel the need for such a forum and the value. As an adult I have experienced the healing that comes from open sharing.
What would you like your legacy to be?
She was a kind person who brought meaning to people's lives by helping them to create joyous and meaningful celebrations of life's significant events.

There was plenty of food for thought - along with cake, cookies and iced-tea – at Death Café Auburn on Tuesday evening. (Special thanks to Sally for the luscious, home-made sheet cakes!) Among our group of about 14, we had several familiar voices and a few new ones added to the mix. We appreciate the consistent number of repeat attendees and hope that this indicates an increasing comfort level with the stimulating topics of conversation. When you come back again, it says that you find these gatherings beneficial, which is GREAT! We can all consider ourselves to be part of the movement to normalize death. If you experience an uplifting ...

Tony Lopez of Channel 13 News, Sacramento CBS affiliate, visited the Death Cafe Auburn this month. We were happy to make the 10:00 news so more people can hear about what we are offering. Tony also put in a plug for Death Cafe Roseville. He interviewed two of our facilitators and a couple of people who attended as well as showing the group during our discussion. Small group conversation was sparked with some prompts ...

I was so delighted to host my first Death Cafe in Roseville, at Mimi's Cafe. Six souls showed up to drink tea, eat one of the three desserts I brought, and talk about death and dying. We had a chocolate flourless cake, coffee cake, and vegan cookies so all culinary tastes were accomodated. One participant came all the way from Paso Robles. Our conversation flowed around our early experiences of death, our current dealings with death of loved ones and experiences we have had with those who have passed sending us messages in some form. The time flew by and I know there was probably much more ...

We held our very first Death Cafe in Auburn on March 11, 2014.
Eleven of us gathered in the evening in the warm environment of AHmbiance, upstairs in the Gold Country Mall in Downtown Auburn, CA. We all shared our reasons for coming, for wanting to participate. Only a couple people had ever been to a Death Café before and reasons for coming ranged from curiosity to the desire to be more present in the now in order to prepare for our eventual passing. Words used by participants to describe the experience were “safe, encouraging, open, enlightening, accepting”.
