Death Cafe profile for Naomi Wood
Location: United Kingdom
About Naomi Wood:
I live in Thirsk North Yorkshire, England with my partner and three children. I am very keen to open the discussion of death and dying in my local community. I meditate, follow some buddhist practices and am keen to enjoy life fully. Addressing death and mortality seems to help me feel more vital and awake. Talking about deep matters of the heart has always been important to me and helps me connect with my family friends and community.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I was a nurse for 11 years before having children. I am now a full time parent at home. I would like to carry on with the deep connections I made in nursing with people especially when they are acutely ill or in palliative care. But also I feel driven to look at my own mortality and help my children value and make sense of their own lives and death. My two main personal experiences with death have been a boyfriend who committed suicide when I was 22 years old and my father who died at home very peacfully, with all his family around.
What would you like your legacy to be?
Raise three happy children who fulfil their own potential.
