About Kit Racette:
My daughter died unexpectedly in 2007. Her death has called into question my beliefs about what death is and what comes after death. In addition I found no one wanted to talk about death, her death or any one else's. Since then I have become a grief edu-therapist and I find in my groups most people are unwilling to talk about death. My hope is that participation in Death Cafe will help open up conversations about death and people will then value every day of their lives from here on.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
Death is the last taboo subject, now that we can talk so freely about sex.... Hopefully the movement of Death Cafe will open this up for conversation. If we have a relationship with Death, we can appreciate more fully our lives.
What would you like your legacy to be?
The loss of her beloved daughter opened her to the beauty of every day and every one.

In November we were honoured to have a film team join us in a Death Cafe evening to film the discussions. The programme "Second Regard" is well known and admired for producing excellent reports and they certainly lived up to their reputation.
The film is in French but I think even if you do not understand the words you will appreciate the quality of the piece.

Death Cafe write up: Death Cafe in Montreal
Posted by Kit Racette on July 28, 2014, 5:17 p.m.
On July 16, 25 people gathered together in Montreal for tea and coffee and cakes. Once more I was struck by how different each Death Cafe is. There is always the mixture of people who come because they have experienced the death of some one close. Then there are those who work in palliative care and I value their sharing of their accompanying the dying. And there are always those who are curious about their own death, some frightened and some wanting to face it in a conscious way. This time, once more, there was some one who shared their near death experience and we are all interested ...
