About Laura James:
Welcome to Death Cafe Taunton! I am the new cafe lead, having taken over from the amazing Nicole, whose shoes I will attempt to fill!
I have a long history of working in palliative and end of life care. I have worked as an occupational therapist in oncology centres, in the community and in hospices and I currently find myself the End of Life Education Lead for Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
I am passionate about people having a good death experience and look forward to sharing experiences and stories with you all.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
Death Cafe work is really important. Death is still so much of a stigma in our society, yet it is the one thing that will absolutely happen to us all. I encourage the idea that death, whilst profoundly devasting, does not need to be full of fear. It can be a beautiful bespoke experience, but it starts with having a good conversation...so come and join in with one!
What would you like your legacy to be?
Kindness in all things, but especially to those who feel adrift and alone
Thoughts for sharing:
'You matter because you are you, and you matter until the end of your life'
'Don't count the days, make the days count'
'Wise men plant trees knowing that they'll never sit in the shade of them'
'Love a lot, trust a few, always paddle your own canoe'
