What brings you to Death Cafe?
I have attended many Death Cafe's this year. I love meeting all sorts of people in this space learning from others and having frank conversations about Living, Dying and Death in a safe space.
What would you like your legacy to be?
Having regular community chats, events and education sessions, hopefully will help People to make choices, be more informed and exercise their right to live, die and be disposed of their way.
All involved in one's End of Life Journey will be more openminded, accepting, loving, treat the person not just the body and the disease; see individuals as spiritual beings having a human experience.
Thoughts for sharing:
"A Death Doula is someone who is death literate, knows that death is not the enemy and serves with an openness in Private Practice".
"Fear does not prevent death, it prevents life".
Life is a journey to the farewell performance.
Talking about Death doesn't hasten your Death!
"The enemy is not death. The enemy is a failure to spread your wings and to recognise how amazing life is, and then to live it!"
“Man’s only certainty is Death and Taxes”!
"We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. In essence, we are more than flesh and blood.
"One day we will all Surrender to Death. What control do we have over this? Ultimately, letting go!"

A small gathering but full of rich discussion that went on for sometime.
After attendees dove into a lucky dip of icebreakers in the living, dying, death space, conversation flowed:
Cremation/Body Disposition in Japanese, Philippine and other cultures.
Being laid to rest on country or other ancestral lands.
The pros and cons of VAD, also organ donation.
The issues with prolonging life, medical models, funeral models.
Death is a human event not just a medical and profit driven one.
Talk of living wakes, living to the full after a terminal diagnosis, dying at home, vigils, rituals, home funerals.
Having choice and control for dying and death.
