About Jill Greenbaum:
I am a contemplative chaplain, practicing Buddhist, artist, visual storyteller, and storycatcher specializing in death literacy and end-of-life planning. After a career in education and directing programs for survivors of sexual violence, I leveraged my knowledge and skills as a teacher, principal, and administrator in special education settings in NYC and my doctorate in curriculum development to build my facilitation, training, and coaching practice. Currently, I also teach visual thinking skills to learners around the world and offer Appreciative Living Learning Circles and programs focusing on trauma-informed teaching and end-of-life planning.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I enjoy creating spaces in which people feel comfortable exploring their questions and feeling heard. Participating in Death Cafes supports a more death-positive society—as I talk about my areas of interest with friends and colleagues all the time—and helps me learn more about myself and others.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I created a caring space for everyone who wanted to share what was weighing on their heart and the experience of being heard.
Thoughts for sharing:
Live every day. Make plans for your final months, weeks and days—and hold them lightly—knowing that you will most likely feel more at peace every day if you have prepared for your dying and death. It is a gift you give yourself and your family.
