About Lesley Wood:

I am Yoga Teacher, Sound Therapist and Holistic Practitioner, with a past life working for the NHS and as a Hostle worker.

Being present at someones death I have found to be a deeply spiritual experience.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Death quite often comes unannounced. When my father died I was unprepared, uninformed and like so many others in this situation, death was quickly becoming a feast on which the vultures in the death buisnesses could feast.

Did I have to hand over all reponsibilty to the undertakers?

Could I drive my father to the Crematorium myself?

So many more questions I wish I had had the time to explore and digest so that decisions could be made before the emotions came flooding in.

We are never ready to loose a love one, but its going to happen that is certain. Others are going to loose you too.

Some people may never talk about Death.

Talking in a safe relaxed environment and exploring ideas and each others thoughts about death, being open to discussion about what might happen next, is the first step towards a good death and positive future for those left behind.

So what better way to do this than at a Death Cafe eating cake and drinking tea.  Rationalising the whole experience of Death outside of therapy and preparing for the future that will eventually affect us all.

What would you like your legacy to be?

My surname is Wood so its apt that I would like a Tree to be grown and nouished from my dead body.

Ideally under this tree my children and grandchildren and friends can come for picnics and shelter.

Thoughts for sharing:

May you never miss a rainbow, because you are looking down.
