About Carla Grillo:
My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I’ve been married to my best friend since 2002 and currently live in the Washington, D.C. area.
I was born and raised in Bolivia, but I’ve lived in the United States since early 2001.
I’m an introvert, and I’ve been told that I’m intuitive and a good listener. I like to help others and to have fun.
I have an eclectic taste in everything. My interests include art, music, nature, meditation, yoga, anthropology, history, Jungian psychology, shamanism, genealogy, film, some TV shows, among other things. I love learning, meeting new people, listening to new music, trying new foods, and exploring things I don’t understand.
I'm a Certified Professional Coach and a NEDA Proficient End-of-Life Doula.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I’ve always been drawn to things I don’t understand, and death is one of those.
I welcome conversations about death and dying with anyone who is open to discussing their perception and/or personal relationship with death.
Beginning in February 2022, I will facilitate these conversations in a virtual group-setting through Death Café, on the first Sunday of every month, from 5:00 to 6:00pm, Eastern Time.
What would you like your legacy to be?
In my experience, conversations around death can be difficult and often avoided because of fear but we’re human, therefore mortal, and we will experience death sooner or later, whether it’s our loved ones’ death or our own, and whether we talk about it or not.
I believe that by overcoming or lowering our fears about death, we can live a more joyful life, and cherish every moment we have in the present, instead of living in fear of the future. My goal is to hold a safe space to discuss death, as it relates to life, and help people feel more comfortable and at-peace with the reality of death and as result, live fearlessly.
