About Katrina Taee:
Hi, I have a nursing and counselling background, but am now an End of Life Doula, who is someone who is a supporter or companion to walk alongside those with life-limiting illnesses, their families and those who are important to them.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I find myself naturally talking about death where ever I go so it is a natural progression to start a Death Cafe for my local community. I think a lot of people are terrified of dying but the more we can shed light on the dark of that taboo subject the more comfortable people can feel about their own mortality and those they love. Hopefully we will have some fun too and meet lots of interesting new people!
What would you like your legacy to be?
That I showed my children and my family and friends how to face death, not because I was so brave or a great stalwart or didn't cry but because I was real with my emotions AND accepted it at the same time, as part of my story. I hope I can live my death as fully as I have lived my life. Now there's a challenge.
Thoughts for sharing:
Talk about it, don't shy away from it. Teach our children to be accepting of death and that it is part of the natural progression of life. It is scary but we can pass on fear of death or we can pass on acceptance of death. I know which one I want to pass on....after all there is not one of us who will escape it. Make it a natural part of a full life, not just the end bit!
