About this Death Cafe

I have organized this cafe because I want to talk about death, particularly with the people in my neighbourhood.

To be clear, there is no agenda to this Death Cafe.  The objective is "to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives".  It is a discussion group rather than a counselling session; conversation will crafted by the people present.  Please visit deathcafe.com/what/ for more information.

I am happy to facilitate this event at Studio.89, a one-of-a-kind, fairtrade, not-for-profit youth-run cafe in Mississauga.  We will be meeting in the cozy second-floor Artademic Centre, a shoe-free zone.  Donations will collected for our venue.

About Andrea Murphy

Andrea is a yoga teacher and birth worker, who today is turning her career towards death.  She is a student of Stephen Jenkinson's Orphan Wisdom School and currenlty enrolled in funeral services education at Humber College.  As a member of the board of the national nonprofit Canadian Funeral Peer Support, Andrea works to cultivate wellness among funeral workers in Canada.  She is following the changing trends in the bereavement industry and is particularly interested in the rise of death doulas and the greening of disposition options.  Andrea aspires to offer the public participatory options in the care of their dead.  She is forever interested in creating community ritual space.
