About Mount Auburn Cemetery

Following the model developed by Jon Underwood (based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz), a Death Café is an opportunity for people to eat cake, drink tea, and discuss death. The goal is to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.” The equinox is an ideal time to reflect on life and death as we circle through growth and rebirth in the Spring and the eventual leaf-fall and decay of Autumn.

At Mount Auburn’s Death Café, attendees will have the opportunity to speak in both large and small group settings and have organic and meaningful discussions on mortality. Tea and Cupcakes will be served. No registration is required for this Death Café: seats are available on a first come first served basis. Meet in Bigelow Chapel

This is not an end-of-life planning event, bereavement group, or grief counseling. We hope that you will come with an open mind, prepared to discuss the topic of death with strangers in a safe, respectful environment.
