About Elle and Dot
BIOGRAPHY OF DOT SPINK
I moved to Totnes in 1983 to attend Dartington College of Arts to study a BA in Theatre. I decided to stay in Devon after the birth of my son in 1984 and involved myself in theatre work with college students and other theatre practitioners in and around South Devon.
In 1991 I attended South Devon College attending the Diploma course in Dramatherapy, from this I worked briefly at Channings Wood prison before co-founding a Playback Theatre group in Totnes. When this folded I set up Moving Stories Playback Theatre and having been successful in a National Lottery bid performed in and around South Devon. Client groups included schools, residential homes and the general public.
I also have experience working in the youth sector as a youth worker, in education as a Family support worker and Parent Support Adviser working in local primary schools.
My voluntary work includes Barn Cinema Dartington, Food In Community, Interg8e, Share Shed and Proud2be based in Totnes.
I enjoy film, theatre, music, dance, writing, walking, TV, gardening, reading, recycling, debates/discussions and laughing
My name is Elle. I qualified as a teacher in 2004 and taught English and Drama in secondary schools in Cornwall for 10 years. I then re-trained to teach adults and to teach English to speakers of other languages. Since then I have worked as an English tutor and EFL teacher (and I have a current DBS certificate). I moved to Totnes in 2016 and met Dot at a Death Cafe event. We found we both have an interest in setting up a Totnes Death Cafe, and I'm so pleased we can hold our Death Cafes at the Daisy Centre!
