About this Death Cafe

"Death is the destination we all share. So don't let's run from it - let's celebrate it!"  Steve Jobs

You've filed your taxes, so why not discuss death.  There's nothing morbid about a Death Cafe.  Quite the opposite...it is fun, enlightening and you will meet new friends.  Oh, did I mention you laugh a lot.

The Venue...PreFAB space is a unique venue combining co-working, light manufacture, pop-up retail, special event, and networking space for San Diego's creative community.  PreFAB occupies space that once served as courtroom, center for Naval Intelligence in WWII, and later Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Lab in the historic San Diego Police Headquarters.  The Headquarters at Seaport District.  Many thanks to Brian Hawkins for being the generous location sponsor for our next Death Cafe!

Come early and enjoy dinner at one of The Headquarters fine new restaurants - Cheesecake Factory, Seasons 52, Eddie V's, Pizzeria Mozza, and Puesto.  Then come upstairs to PreFAB, where we will walk the path of discovery while discussing death, eating dessert and sipping tea.

About Karen Van Dyke

At Death Cafes, people come together in a relaxed and safe setting to discuss life, death, and dying while making the most of our finite lives. Death Cafe is neither a therapy nor a grief group. It is simply a gathering for discussion over tea and cakes.

I pioneered the Death Café San Diego as a community service, in May, 2013 joining more than 400 other Cafes worldwide. Death Cafe is built on the premise that many people want to talk about death, but cannot address it with family and/or friends.

The safe, secure and confidential atmosphere of Death Café fosters dialogue among individuals who share a desire and curiosity to explore the end-of-life and its many peripheral issues.
