About this Death Cafe

I decided to get on board with the Death Cafe as it is a subject which is close to my heart. I have always been interested in death to one degree or another and am committed to ensuring that people have the ending that they wish to have, their way. 

Getting people talking and is one way to break down the taboos around death that have been with us for so long. I think that this began when death started to be removed form our daily lives with the advent of hospitals, hospices, funeral services  etc etc. though very much needed in  this world they play their part in removing death from the family home and from our sphere of experience and influence. 

Death Cafe's are a  great way to begin the dialog...Liz

I have worked in Social care for most of my working life, specialising mainly in Person Centred Practice. As a Celebrant I deal with death on a daily basis and have previously worked with local authorities creating training services that enable teams who support people to develop a 'toolkit' that enables them to work with people with a diagnosis of a terminal illness and to manage theirs and others responses to grief and loss. I have trained in end of life care and bereavement counselling. though I am not a practicing counsellor. Liz
