About this Death Cafe

The cafe will be sponsored by the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center.

I have attended numerous cafes in San Francisco and Alameda. They have become an important part of my life, my learning and my source of inspiration.

After a few cafes I knew that it would be something really wonderful and very important for my community. Many of us don't have much in the way of family support so these discussion become even more important.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will provide funding for drinks and food.

I'm asking for donations, any amount, that will go to our sponsor.

About Oakland LGBTQ Community Center

This Death Cafe has been cancelled.

The Oakland LGBT Community Center recently opened to serve the diverse and growing population of LGBTQ people in San Francisco's East Bay.

Facilitator is Renee Mayer , also known as Sister Jendra Uforia of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. As a sister my ministry has been to serve LGBTQ elder community.

My most recent project was to organize and facilitate several workshops on aging and death in partnership with Open House, an LGBTQ organization that serves the diverse needs of the elders in our community.

Cofacilitator is Katie Gilmartin, also know as Sister Arianna BadTrip?.

She's and artist and writer and is currently interviewing and working with LQBTQ elders.

She was also a cofacilitator with the Open House project mentioned above.

She has a PhD in cultural studies. I on the other hand have no creditials what so ever. I do, however have a long and passionate relationship with the subject of aging and death.
