About this Death Cafe
We feel it's very important to break the taboo around death and dying in our society.
People who have learned to become comfortable thinking and talking about death and dying, can often handle a crisis situation, of being in an Emergency Room or ICU with a life threatening illness, better. They are more prepared, because they have heard stories of how others went through similar experiences. And have had the time to think about the choices they would've made.
But also, death is such a fascinating and broad topic. It is so interesting to explore all the different philosophical, bio-medical, ethical, legal, psychological, environmental, spiritual and anthropological aspects together!
About Teddy and Marianne
Both facilitators are widows and very comfortable with talking about all aspects of death and dying.
Besides Death Cafe of Ocala, we also host our own little monthly spin off, called Peaceful Passing, in which we provide guest-speakers and/or video presentations about various aspects of death and dying.
in addition to that, Marianne facilitates a six week Grief Support Group every year. The program is specifically developed for those dealing with the loss of a spouse. But people dealing with the loss of someone else, are welcome too. After the initial six weekly meetings, most groups hold monthly lunch reunions for the rest of the year.
