About this Death Cafe

“A Death Café at Cottage Hospice (The Bloom Group)” is generously supported by The Bloom Group - Cottage Hospice, which is so kindly donating the meeting space for this Death Café. Please feel welcomed to join us for this 3^rd in a series of 4 Death Cafés being held in early 2016 in Vancouver, Canada; where in a relaxed setting we will drink tea, eat cake, and discuss death. These forthcoming Vancouver Death Cafés are free of charge. Advance registration is required to limit numbers to 20 people so as to maximize participant conversation time. The first in this 2016 series of four Death Cafés in Vancouver, Canada will be held on Wednesday 17^th February 2016 at The Grind & Gallery Coffee Bar (located at: 4124 Main Street). The second in this 2016 series of four Death Cafés in Vancouver, Canada will be held on Tuesday 15^th March 2016 at Banyen Books & Sound (located at: 3608 West 4th Avenue). The fourth in this 2016 series of four Death Cafés in Vancouver, Canada will be held on Thursday 28^th April 2016 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church-West End Vancouver (located at: 1130 Jervis Street).

About Anneke Rees and Tom Esakin

Anneke Rees holds 30 years of experience in the health care system, including as a palliative care paid-trainer and volunteer, and also on staff as a former Leader of Volunteer Resources for Providence Health Care - St. Paul's Hospital. She is currently a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and a coach in their Executive Mentorship Program, and offers professional supports in hospice care.

Tom Esakin is formally-trained as an interfaith spiritual companion / director through the Jubilee Associates in Canada, is the interfaith spiritual director for the Julian of Norwich Ministry in Spiritual Companioning at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Vancouver, and offers spiritual supports through Reflective Presence-Consultants in Ministry. His life has unexpectedly come to frequently encounter death (whether of friends, family, or acquaintances) and this has spawned for him an interest in death. This includes his learning about ‘death doulas’ and his completing courses in "Making Peace with Death and Dying" and "Sacred Presence with the Dying."  Tom is a member of SDI-Spiritual Directors International.
