About this Death Cafe

Having experienced the loss of people close to me, I've always been curious about the silence that surrounds death and dying. Why is something that's such a natural part of life so difficult for us to talk about?

Losing my own mum six years ago made me realise just how much better we could do death and dying.

I truly believe that if we want to do dying better, we need to start by talking about it. Death doesn't always have to be frightening or difficult. It can also be a beautiful, peaceful and meaningful journey, both for the person dying and those around them.

Through my volunteer work with Busselton Hospice Care, my passion for opening up these conversations has only grown.

My hope is to create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, experiences and curiosity about life, dying and death.

Join me as we step outside the box and have conversations about the things that really matter, the things we so often don't get the opportunity to talk about, but perhaps should. Because death is part of life, and I believe that by talking about it openly, we have the opportunity to make that final chapter something truly special.

About Sam Curran

I'm a Busselton local, small business owner and volunteer with Busselton Hospice Care.

I've always been someone who enjoys meaningful conversations, particularly about life, the human experience and those subjects we often shy away from discussing. I'm naturally curious about people, their stories and the different perspectives we all bring to life.

I have a background in mental health, youth work and education support, and a genuine interest in people, connection and emotional wellbeing.

Through my volunteer work with Busselton Hospice Care and my own personal experiences with loss, my interest in how we approach death and dying has continued to grow.

I'm certainly not an expert in death and dying, just someone who believes there's so much we can learn from one another when we create space for open, honest and meaningful conversations.

I'm really looking forward to hosting my first Death Café and bringing together people from all walks of life to share their thoughts, experiences and curiosity.
