About this Death Cafe
We have a simple intention: to increase awareness of death so we can make the most of our finite lives. Death Cafe is a way for us in our community to sit together over tea and cake to talk about something we all share, but don't often openly discuss. Getting more comfortable wtih death may help us live life more deeply and fully. We meet at Whangaparaoa Library on selected dates. All are welcome.
About Marama Winder
I was raised in America within a large multi-generational family who immigrated from Eastern Europe. Life and death, tradition and culture were part of our everyday lives, although we rarely talked about death and dying, even through experiences of great tragedies. For nearly 30 years, I have been living on the coast of New Zealand. My life and work has been influenced by the stunning beauty of natural world, the tangata whenua Maori people of the land, and the many cultures who have come here. Hosting Coast Death Cafe is a way to engage with people of all beliefs in our coastal community who are interested in conversations that matter most in life and death. I'm interested in exploring ways to bring the depth of our interconnection to nature and the soul into death conversations.
