About this Death Cafe
A Death Café offers a judgment-free, safe space to share, connect, and reflect on the one inevitability – we are all going to die. So many people find it difficult to talk about death in our culture. This space offers participants the opportunity to share thoughts about death, learn from and connect to others, and demystify and destigmatize death and dying. Themes and topics might include personal reflections, legacies, life preparations, film and media, and life transitions.
About Jen Whitford
This Death Café is facilitated by Dr. Jen Whitford, an INELDA and SAGECare trained end-of-life doula. Jen is a member of NEDA and earned the NEDA Proficiency Badge. While Jen is a licensed psychologist and part-time professor of psychology in the community, this Death Café is a non-clinical space devoted to talking about all things related to death and dying. While topics related to loss and grief may arise during our conversation, the focus of a Death Café is non-clinical. Bring your curiosity and an open mind and heart and let’s discuss! You do not have to be facing death yourself or caring for someone who is facing a life-limiting illness to attend, as the conversation does not focus on dying. You may find that having honest, open conversations (with strangers who might become friends!) about death can help us live our lives more fully. There is no fee to attend. For more information and to RSVP to the next Death Café, please email deathdoulajen@gmail.com.
