About this Death Cafe

Palliative care is a specialized form of care that provides symptom relief, comfort, and support to people living with serious or chronic illness. It also supports caregivers and others impacted by a loved one’s condition. Simply stated, palliative care is about improving quality of life.

A Death Cafe is a meaningful place to discuss death, dying, grief, and the human experience for those living with illness or working in a healthcare capacity. The conversations likely to arise are a great place to discuss the palliative care process, the quality of the present moment, and the aspects of illness and care that make us deeply human.

I wanted to start a Death Cafe specifically for healthcare workers and people living with chronic illness so we could connect through shared physical and emotional experiences. Like other Death Cafes, there is no set agenda, lecture, or intended outcome. Instead, the goal is to create a respectful and open space where participants may gain insight, perspective, comfort, or connection through conversation with others who share similar experiences.

This group is intended for anyone who considers themselves a healthcare worker or someone living with a chronic illness. It is also open to caregivers and volunteers, whose experiences and perspectives are an important part of these conversations as well.

About Kate Meadows, MS, RD, ACSM-EP

I have been working in healthcare and community settings for over 15 years.  I am a Registered Dietitian and certified Exercise Physiologist and have dedicated my career to helping my patients and clients imrove their sense of well-being.  I have worked in the Palliative Care realm via hospitals, research, community service delivery, and outpatient settings.  I also live with my own chronic illness and have experienced the other side of the care spectrum being the patient.

I am new to hosting a Death Cafe, but not attending them.  I recently obtained my Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care and enjoy volunteering my time bringing the community together to discuss life, death, and all things inbetween.
