About this Death Cafe

We’re running a Death Café because we believe conversations about death, grief, and loss deserve space, compassion, and openness — not silence or fear.

The chapel offers a unique sense of tranquillity through its peaceful setting and quirky character, creating an environment where people can feel calm, safe, and able to reflect. Both facilitators are deeply passionate about supporting others to find moments of quietness and understanding during what can be one of life’s most challenging experiences.

For many people, death is still a difficult subject to talk about. Because of this, important healing conversations are often avoided or missed altogether. Our aim is to gently break down that barrier by providing a welcoming and supportive space where people can speak freely, share thoughts or experiences without judgement, and connect with others who may be navigating similar situations.

A Death Café is not about focusing on fear or sadness — it is about creating honest human connection, encouraging understanding, and helping people feel less alone in conversations around death, dying, and grief.

About Lynda Barksby & Kay Ulivi

Kay - a Death Doula, Soul Midwife and Priestess with over 20 years of experience supporting people at the end of life, both within the NHS and privately. I bring calm presence, deep listening and simple, meaningful ritual to help individuals and families feel steadier and less alone. I also support people through grief, the tender period after death, and pet loss through my training with the Blue Cross. My work is gentle, human and offered on a donation basis so it remains accessible to anyone who needs it.

Lynda - Lynda has provided compassionate community care for over 30 years, supporting people through end-of-life journeys with warmth, understanding, and empathy. Her personal and professional experiences inspired her to further her training as a death doula, funeral celebrant, yoga therapist, and in other holistic practices that support wellbeing and meaningful living.

A thoughtful and attentive listener, Lynda creates safe spaces for open and honest conversations around death, grief, and life. Her vision is to help raise awareness of death as a natural part — and celebration — of life, rather than something to be feared or avoided. She is passionate about empowering others to plan for their deaths in ways that reflect their wishes, values, and individuality.
