About this Death Cafe

We run a Death Café on the third Monday of each month, and have been for over 18 months. It’s a space to talk about death, grief, and all the awkward, messy, beautiful stuff in between—without judgment, without cliches, and yes, with a little dark humour to keep things real.

Think of it as deep conversation with cake, coffee, and no rush to pretend everything’s fine. These sessions let people explore loss, legacy, and life’s big questions while we remind them that death doesn’t have to be scary—it’s just part of the club we all eventually join.

Nicky Myers is the founder of Your Funeral Director (YFD) in Sydney, where she believes that death, grief, and remembrance are part of life—not something to be rushed or hidden. She creates safe, compassionate spaces for families to explore loss, craft meaningful rituals, and honour the lives of their loved ones.

As a facilitator of Death Cafés, Nicky encourages open, judgment-free conversations about mortality, helping communities face grief with honesty, care, and curiosity. Her work is guided by one simple truth: people may forget what was said or done, but they never forget how they were made to feel.
