About this Death Cafe
Death Cafes are now on monthly Friday evenings at Abitza Cafe, Upwey.

Death Cafe at Abitza brings people together to speak about dying and death.
Death Cafe provides an easy relaxed space to speak and hear others around death & dying; releasing fear, broadening attitudes & building a profound sense of community.
A facilitated group conversation unfolds. People share personal experiences, stories, questions, around topics such as deaths of loved ones, re-engaging dying as a normal aspect of everyday life, the process of dying & improving the experience of dying, conscious dying, sudden deaths close brushes with death, green burials, and community led funerals. Some people simply come to listen, or join in as they feel, at the time.
Come and share with others, hear their thoughts and experiences. Build ease and literacy around dying and death.
Death Cafe Overview
Arrive 6pm - for a meal (delicious meal deal $15)
or 6.45pm - register for the event& be seated by7pm
7.00pm start - Facilitator opens with a brief introduction and background of Death Cafe creating a relaxed easy space for inclusive free flowing conversation.
Everyone invited to speak and share, doing so is optional.
8pm ish – Brief break & final food & drink orders
9.20pm – Wind up
9.30pm – Close & next Death Cafe.
About Leanne Skipsey
It is my passion to contribute to a cultural shift where death and dying are seen as a normal part of life, and where individuals & communities have healthy skills around being with loss, grief & dying, with wisdom and compassion.
My background includes over 20 years at senior levels in public & population health & palliative care – individual resilience/social change for mental wellbeing, family caregiver mentoring & death literacy. Drawing on a regular personal meditation practice since late 80’s, a Buddhist path over past 10 years, and professional teacher training in Mindfulness and Mindful Self Compassion, I teach Mindfulness, Self Compassion & Dying Well within my own training consultancy ‘Living Awake’ and for ‘Thinking Healthy’
