About this Death Cafe
To ignore death is to ignore life...
Felixology is pleased to present our first Death Cafe. Join us for coffee (and tea), cake, and conversations on death. These honest conversations allow participants to bring up questions, concerns, thoughts, and experiences on death.
The Felixology Death Cafe takes place after hours at the Felixology Bookshop. This is a free event geared for adults, though all ages are welcome.
About Elizabeth Brow Parise
Venue/Host:
Felixology: books, gifts, and art for the magical mind is an enchanted bookshop dedicated to the memory of Felix Brow, a magical soul who passed away too soon. Felix was a deep-thinker and an "old soul" who was profoundly interested in death, memento mori, and the afterlife during his short life. His 16th birthday was funeral themed as "The Death of Childhood." The bookshop honors these interests as part of remembering Felix.
Host/Facilitator:
When Elizabeth Brow Parise's son Felix was diagnosed with Stage 4 terminal cancer at age 28, she realized that there was a societal taboo on the discussion of death. She wanted to talk to her son about death, his death, and everything that encompasses, but it was always the elephant in the room that was ignored. Though Felix was interested in death while he was alive, once faced with his own mortality the conversations stopped. When Felix ultimately died at age 29, Elizabeth became determined to break this taboo by facilitating conversations on death.
