About this Death Cafe

To keep things open, respectful, and introspective, we loosely follow a "Socratic Seminar" style. The "Socratic Method" prioritzies inquery over information, and discussion over debate. Learning is SOCIAL, and death is social. We won't try to change you, we just want to hear what's on your mind. 

We'll ask who you are, why you want to talk about death, and the rest is up to you! If you're worried we will run out of things to talk about, rest assured, death is endless.  As one of our participants remarked last cafe, "we've all been conversing about this for two hours and we barely scratched the surface!" Let's keep scratching. 

About Amanda Peckham

Amanda Peckham is a Washington State transplant from the East Coast who is terrified of her own death. After recent back-to-back family losses, she recognized the need for a public space to have open conversation about our one shared guarantee: death. Amanda hopes we can invest in each other, and our mortality simultaneously, because death really does bring people together.
