About this Death Cafe
Alex and I were colleagues for a number of years and are now firm friends. We share an interest in people and the significance of life events.
When I told Alex about my experience of a Death Cafe and my desire to bring the initiative to my local community, she was enthusiastic to help and support and together we are pleased to bring Death Cafe to Kirby Muxloe.
About Catrina Young & Alex Buttery
Catrina was a Religious Studies teacher for 30+ years and recently qualified as an Independent Celebrant offering personalised, bespoke ceremonies to people in her community. She has been conducting funerals for nine months and finds this work incredibly rewarding.
The death of her Father in 2004 initiated Alex's journey with grief and all the practicalities surrounding death. Working as a secondary school teacher, her natural interests always lay within the pastoral side of the role. This combination led her to complete Leicester University's Certificate and PostGrad Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, both of which cover many areas of thinking around death. She became a Bereavement Support Worker for Cruse Bereavement Care in 2009 and was proud to carry out this role for 10 years. She currently works as a school Listener.
