About this Death Cafe

*Discussion In Spanish Available*

This event is open to all ages and ability types but will have a heavy demographic of elderly and disabled people. The building it is hosted in is fully accessible.

We will have light snacks, coffee and tea and you'll find a lot of information about community events and classes beyond just the death cafe.

We will follow basic guidelines of:

1.      1. What is shared here is confidential. If you share a story with someone from Death Café you should not share their name or identifying information without their permission.

2.     2.  No promotion of products or services. There is nothing that you can buy that will change the fact that we’re all mortal. No miracle cures, funeral home promotion, or attempts at religious conversion are welcome in this space.

3.     3.  Be respectful. Do not offer advice or try to change people’s minds. If, for instance, someone shares that they believe in an afterlife you can share that you do not. But you cannot tell them that they are wrong in their beliefs or vice versa. Differing views are welcome, this is not a space for debate.

4.      4. Lastly, share the air. Allow everyone to speak. If you are feeling comfortable joining in the conversation, look around and see if anyone is struggling to break in or hasn’t gotten a chance to speak and make room for them.

We will split into groups of around 10 per table, each table will have a facilitator to keep the conversation moving and make sure that all guidelines are followed.

About Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus

This Death Cafe is hosted by the Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus. For 70 years, Vivalon has served as the central resource hub for Marin County’s older adults and people with disabilities. Vivalon has helped this valuable population stay active, informed, supported and nourished, while also meeting their crucial transportation needs. We believe that beyond our services of Rides, Meals, Classes, Care and Advice, there is something more vital at work: the sheer power of human connection. Our goal is always to help the individuals we serve thrive through that power of connection, to live a more vibrant, healthier and happier life.

Vivalon is the largest nonprofit serving older adults and people with disabilities in Marin County.
