About this Death Cafe

Death is a part of human life that we find very difficult to talk about, yet all of us have to face it in one way or another. The Death Café is an invitation to gather, eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. They are discussion groups rather than a grief support or counselling session. It is open to anyone interested in deepening their understanding and acceptance of matters related to death and dying.
The event is free and will take place at Impact Roasters (Griffenfeldsgade 4) where you can get coffee, tea and cake (at your own cost). We will start the Death Café with a short introduction and then, depending on the amount of people, split into groups. In each group participants will have time to introduce themselves and share why they came to the Death Café. The conversation will flow naturally from there – there is no agenda or specific theme. At the end everyone is invited to share anything they want others to know, and after a few closing words, the Death Café will end.
The main event will be in English, but Danish groups may be possible if there are enough people to break into groups. Everyone is welcome and can just turn up on the evening. However, it would help us plan if you could indicate your interest!

Thibault: Death entered my life suddenly when my sister took her life a couple of years ago. While sad and tragic, being with death also caused me to look at my life in a different way and allowed me to make decisions that I feel very grateful for today. It has started my journey of creating modern day rituals to bring back meaning into our everyday life. Most recently, I have concluded an education as a End of Life Companion with Living Well Dying Well.
Michele: I feel that we have become removed from the topic of death in practical, emotional and spiritual terms. My background as a researcher on sensitive topics such as terminal illness, disability, dementia and poverty have shown me that it’s a topic we don’t talk about enough. I’m excited to start the Death Cafe as a space where we can talk about death and explore the topic.
