About Lorrie Grisnik Anderson
Lorrie Grisnik Anderson is a death educator and believes even a little knowledge of death and dying can aid in accepting the inevitable. Death education, also known as thanatology, is the study of death and dying and focuses on the human and emotional aspects. (“Death education - Wikipedia”) It can help people work towards physical, mental, and social well-being, and can trigger reflections on the meaning of life. Death education can also help people develop critical thinking skills and share experiences.
Lorrie worked as a manager of hospice volunteers for 13 years. In her role, she trained volunteers in the best practices for visiting terminally ill patients and their families. She also created an 11th-hour program and introduced communication boards for staff, volunteers, and families to use with non-verbal patients. Additionally, she mentored other hospice volunteer managers across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, and organized 3-day fly-ins to offer additional training for hospice managers of volunteers.
