About this Death Cafe

Welcome to Death Cafe Murrumbeena!

The space we have chosen for this Death Cafe has been crafted with comfort and curiosity in mind. You will be greeted with hot chai and ethereal music that will spirit you away from the everyday bustle and into the contemplative present.

As you arrive, take a few moments to settle in and gently gaze around the room, as our dialogue will soon meander through the halls of death. Your facilitators have taken the time to ensure that you will be safe and supported throughout this existential dialogue.

There is no agenda as to where the dialogue will roam, and we will explore the reality of death however it presents itself in the room. You are most welcome to bring the wisdom of who you are and the conversation will surely be richer for it. Come exactly as you are. We welcome people of all genders, of all race, faiths and sexual orientations. If you are a person that will die one day, you are in the right place.

Sign up: Please use the form below and you will receive the address in Murrumbeena once you have registered.

Please bring a light vegetarian snack with you that is easily shareable. This will help us celebrate life even as we discuss the topic of death.

Donations are welcome and 100% of donations will go towards Saave Mi - en hjälpande hand and their "One Hot Meal a Day" project that provides food to the elderly and disabled in the village of Ratankot in Nepal. You can find out more about their work on their FB:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100080637375441

We can't wait to be together with you as we discuss death.

Yours in living and dying,
Waltraud and Adam

About Adam van Heerden & Waltraud Reiner

Waltraud Reiner

Waltraud is Austrian born, lives in Australia and holds an MA in Gestalt Psychotherapy. She has also learnt the value of  psychodynamic analytic therapy and group therapy. The lifelong aim of her work has been to enable others to explore their own healing journey.

Waltraud believes that we are all unique works of art in the making. She draws in her work on sand play, art and clay, as well as her love for textiles and weaving. Being herself a textile artist all of her life, Waltraud believes just as a painter needs to discover the skills to select brushes and paints, so do our psyches need to discover which parts of themselves to shine and polish.

She has a passion to create space for people and community and join them as they venture into deep and sometimes dark places of their inner life, a task which feels hard and impossible to do alone.

Adam van Heerden

Adam is a psychologist, writer and world wanderer. He is captivated by the capacity of pilgrimage and intentional travel to broaden our perspectives and build bridges between people. Having encountered Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal, Adam is curious about how a more direct way of relating to death may awaken us to the poignancy of life. While Adam loves geographical travel, he believes that existential dialogue may just be the ultimate adventure. Adam runs his own private psychology practice in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia.
