About this Death Cafe

Join a relaxed conversation and openly talk about death, dying and end of life at our drop in Death cafe that'll be on all day at the Norwich Forum for Norwich's Dying Matters Day.

At a Death Cafe people gather to drink tea, eat cake and discuss death. Our aim is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Death Cafe events are offered as an informal space for talking about death with a view to normalising these conversations. As such they are not offered with the intention of providing bereavement support.

The Norwich Death Cafe team are happy to signpost on to other organisations locally offering this kind of support where needed.

About Alexandra Watson and Dying Matters Norwich

Alex is an end of life doula soul midwife and a care worker with the elderly all over Norwich and surrounds. She also volunteers at the local Norwich and Norfolk hosptial as a Butterfly with the Anne Robson Trust supporting those in the very last days of their lives. She came to this career after a long and varied work life all over Europe in everything from English teaching to drag cabaret! After feeling the need to find a more spiritual purpose and meaning to her life she discovered the death doula and soul midwifery role and is now dedicating herself to offering loving support to those coming to the end of their lives.

Every year, people around the UK use Dying Matters Awareness Week as a moment to encourage all communities to get talking in whatever way, shape or form works for them.

This year’s theme, ‘The way we talk about Dying Matters’, focuses on the language that we use, and conversations we have, around death and dying – specifically between healthcare professionals and patients, their carers and their families. In Norwich we're specifically focussing on the idea that it's never to young to start talking and will have various talks and stands from local charities and organisations at the Forum on Thurs 2nd May, 9am to 3pm.
