About this Death Cafe

We are grateful to be hosted by Brewed As, one of Mangawhai's awesome cafes. Cabinet food and coffees available and the bar is open so please support our venue by purchasing something yummy. This event is free and inclusive to all.  We consider that everyone has something to contribute, questions to ask and stories to share. For first timers to Death Cafe, sometimes you come with hesitation but please know you will be cared for with respect and confidentiality. Any questions, email the organiser.

About Karen Williamson

Karen comes from a background of palliative care nursing and clinical education. She is an artist and shroudmaker of natural plant dyed funeral shrouds. Her work gives her a vehicle to advocate for protection of the environment in our death care practices, challenges the conventional and empowers family to take an active role in caring for their loved one. She loves a good healthy death conversation. Karen has run death cafes in other areas but is now bringing it to her local Kaipara community after moving here 5 years ago.
