About this Death Cafe
Casccade Health Sponsors the Death Cafe because we agree with the model of Death Cafe to encourage people to talk about life and death and everything in between.
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.
Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
Our Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not for profit basis
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
- Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake!
About Kate Brassington
Kate first became involved with Death Café in spring of 2013 as a facilitator, organizer, and co-chair of PDX Death Café, and she remains passionate about bringing conversation about death and dying to more people. Kate has spent over a decade working with and studying death and grief. She has a Masters in Divinity and is trained as a clinical chaplain. During her residency at a hospital in Portland, she specialized in Pediatric Palliative Care, and she is particularly interested in the psycho-spiritual needs of children at the end of life and their families. Kate now lives in Eugene, Oregon, where she is a hospice chaplain and mother of four.
