About this Death Cafe
Death is universal but how different people and cultures deal with it is unique. This, and much more, can only be discussed in a safe and friendly environment, and I have found Death Café to be exactly that. Death should not be a taboo subject as it will happen to any of us. I believe we should make it a normal part of our life - enabling to live it better.
I have attended several Liverpool Death Cafes (expertly led by Jamie Fearn) as a guest. Not only was this an interesting (and pleasant!) experience, I also became convinced that this Death Café had an important role in many people’s lives. That is why I’m running the Liverpool Death Cafe.
We will be alternating between in-person cafés in Liverpool and Zoom cafés to cater for everyone. The in-person cafés will be in the function room of a very nice pub, The Fly in the Loaf in central Liverpool. Many thanks to them for making it available!
About Kristiaan D'Aout
I’m just one of 8 billion humans.
A zoologist by background, I now work at the University of Liverpool where I teach and research biomechanics. This means that I want to understand how the muscles and joints of healthy people and patients work during walking and other activities.
I’m not an expert on death, but I have some experience with it (like most of us) and with regulations across countries (e.g., on euthanasia).
More than anything, I believe we need to try and squeeze the most out of our finite lives. I get my joy for life most of all from other people and from the great outdoors.
