About this Death Cafe

Death Cafe is a place to eat cake, drink tea, and talk about death. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of death with a view of helping people make the most of their finite lives. So come sit, chat, and commune with the spirit of death!

At this event, we will begin with a short opening and ceremony to drop into our bodies and the sacred space. The majority of the event will be informal, salon-style conversations with peers about death and dying. There will be a facilitator to support when needed. We will listen to each other and share our thoughts with the underlying assumption of respect, care for each other, and confidentiality. This event is open to people of all communities and belief systems.

***All are welcome! If you are feeling abundant, you are invited to bring either a donation or your favorite snack to share! No one will be turned away for lack of funds or snacks.

For me, this Death Cafe is a way to bring together a group of people who are all just as curious about death as I am these days. For the first time in my life, I am afraid of dying. I equate this to the simultaneous occurrence that, also for the first time in my life, I feel hopeful about the future and love what I am experiencing in the present moment. I wanted to host this event to offer myself and others a space to sit in community and talk about our relationship to death without the filters of consensus reality.

Death Cafe is *NOT a bereavement support or grief counseling setting. This is not an opportunity to unilaterally share information about death and dying no matter how good it is. This is not a space for guest speakers nor a place to seek a consultation on death. It is also not a place for profit or capitalistic gain.

Death Cafe *IS a community of people who all share an open curiosity about death and dying. It is a place for respectful conversations that explore our human existence. It is a place for warm tea and sweet snacks. It is a sacred place to connect to others and discuss death with an open mind and softened heart.

The location of this event is HAVN Healing Center. It is across from Gas Works park in Seattle, WA. There is plenty of street parking. This space is unfortunately not ADA accessible as there are stairs located at both of the entrances to the building.

I am looking forward to seeing you all and beginning this conversation! Happy living!
