About this Death Cafe

Ususally clients come to me when in crisis or when tragedy has struck. It seems the more we can talk about death, challenging the taboo, before crisis, planning for the eventual head on,  perhaps the more fully we can be in life. This is why I am hosting a conversation where it is ok to talk about anything related to death, where we can confront our time is limited....and as we talk about how we die, we also enbrace how to live.

About Mariah Riess

For nearly three decades, I have shepherded clients through two different tracks: lifestyle change, and grief & loss. I am a trusted advisor to those seeking compassionate support and guidance.

In my weight management practice, I work with clients across the country who seek coaching support and expertise. Building on three decades of expertise in this field, I help many do what seems impossible: lose weight and develop the skills to prevent weight gain.

On a parallel track are clients who have experienced heartbreaking loss, both human and four-footed. Grief is an experience deserving compassion and expert care. If dismissed, suppressed or silenced, a world of pain may remain. In a culture that is ever hesitant to truly acknowledge the oh-so-human phenomenon of mourning, I have dedicated myself to providing a home for a different, kinder path.

My work also includes diagnosis management and care for those who have received a new, devastating diagnosis. Rather than one of medical treatment, my role is one of thought partnership as my clients grapple with a painful, complex set of considerations. My work helps families access the presence of mind so that they can take on the challenges at hand.
