About Phoenix Holistic & complementary therapy training

The session is facilitated by myself, Jane Iskander,  I facilitate Death Cafes because I believe in the benefits of talking about the things that we can all find difficult, this stretches us and it’s how we learn and grow.

Death Café is not a place, it is an event where people meet and enjoy tasty refreshments whilst talking about death, dying and other topics arising.

I am often asked why I do this and each time I am asked, my answer varies, but it is true that as a child, I was very frightened by idea of death, I didn’t want to believe that I or those I love could one day die.

Since 2018 I have been facilitating Death Cafes, both in person and online and I have enjoyed every one and you may ask why?

In my adult life I have become an Occupational Therapist, NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist, I have many years experience in Hospice, Health & social care in addition to personal and family experiences and receiving a life changing diagnosis in my early twenties. I have experienced the deaths of family members and close friends and over the years, fear has turned more to empathy with a dash of curiosity, a desire to understand life and death and the things that come in between.

Through my working life, I have been trusted and permitted into aspects and areas of peoples lives, often hidden from family and friends, because it is normal & human to hide difficult feelings, of fear and pain from those we love, in the hope of protecting them.

The people who attend a Death Café have stories, thoughts, feelings, beliefs and family & cultural experiences relating to living and dying.

The conversation which develops between these individuals naturally at a Death Cafe can sometimes be challenging and there can be tears, but there are also plenty of smiles and laughter,  the session is a place where people can feel safe to talk and share their stories.

People who have attended say they enjoy the sessions and tell me that talking about death helps and this is the real reason why I love to facilitate Death Cafe.
