About this Death Cafe

Please join us for Inner Sense’s Death Cafe, now In-Person & Outside* at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago, IL! BYOCake, tea, coffee and/ or any other snacks you’d like to share.

A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion to talk openly about our thoughts, ideas, feelings surrounding death, and our own mortality. As the pandemic slowly eases it is now more important than ever to begin to actively participate in our grief, both individually and collectively. We have not only lost members of our community, but jobs, freedom of movement, and even as we re-open, a sense of normalcy. Death Cafe is a welcoming space to vocalize what you've been processing and have a safe space be held for you.

In order to ensure an intimate environment for processing, this gathering has a maximum of 15 guests. We will meet at the the Chapel located in Rosehill Cemetery (5800 N Ravenswood Ave) and from there choose a place to gather by the pond for Death Cafe. To reserve your spot, please register through . There is no cost associated with registration, but participants are invited to make a donation through our PayPal.

Inner Sense Healing Arts is a non-profit organization. This is a free event but donations are welcome to continue supporting our efforts to provide beneficial programming now and into the future.

*Weather Permitting. Class will be offered on Zoom if the weather is unfavorable.

Careid Surprenant's (she/they) background was solely in the visual arts prior to completing her 200hr Yoga Teacher Traingin in 2013, and shortly thereafter, beginning to lead public yoga classes. She graduated from School of the Art Institue of Chicago where the majority of her work explored the themes of death and dying. She is currently a Chicago based yoga teacher, yoga teacher trainer, End of Life Doula, Death Cafe co-facilitator, and co-founder & board member of Inner Sense Healing Arts Collective. While she often jokes that she's a lapsed artist, she sees each of these practices as interconnected, highly creative and artistic works in and of themselves.
