About this Death Cafe

Pre-Covid I hosted a number of successful face-to-face Death Cafes here in North Enfield. I realise that virtual Death Cafes are rather different, but that’s actually why I have decided to offer one. There has been a special kind of intimacy common to all of the Zoom Death Cafes that I’ve participated in during Covid. I value that. My Death Cafes share the same objective as all Death Cafes: “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”. I offer a confidential space that is free from hard politics and religious dogma, and is respectful of the experiences, views and feelings of each participant. There will be no specific agenda. We simply acknowledge the mystery of death in our lives and discuss its meaning for us in the lives we live. This Death Cafe will be small, without break-out groups. If you would like to participate, I look forward to hearing from you. If the demand exceeds available places, I will organise further groups in the near future.

About Derek Grant

During, and then following, a career in higher education, I established a counselling and psychotherapy practice. I have always worked closely with individuals and groups of people of all ages and backgrounds; this is what originally attracted me to Death Cafes – as well as my own increasing awareness of presence of death in my life and the lives of people who are close to me. I love music and art, walking and talking, planting trees and tending vines - and photographing things I encounter. I reflect on my life and experiences on my own website.
