About this Death Cafe

This Death Cafe - Hillsborough is being held IN PERSON outside in a CEMETERY!! (weather looks mostly clear though hot; sunset will be 8:11) After taking a poll during the 5/12 virtual DC-H, enthusiastic interest was expressed! We also provided feedback on levels of COVID safety with which we are comfortable, i.e. masked. Determined by the poll (attendees' input), this specific meeting's safety guidelines will be provided in the reminder email sent around August 8-9th. There will not be a coinciding Zoom meeting. We can tour the c.1885 cemetery (sometimes called the Old Slave Cemetery), read the historical markers, and then settle into our chairs for a physically distanced picnic (this is NOT a potluck -- bring your own food and drink). And of course enjoy our lively, laughter-filled conversations about Death! *Bring your chairs or blanket and your own food and drink.* The address and parking info will be provided in the reminder email. Arrive a little early if you can but, as always, come when you are able! I am so excited to see you mortals in person!

About Neidra L. Clark

Neidra L. Clark is a NEDA Proficient End Of Life Doula (EOLD), a Home Funeral Guide, Green Burial advocate, and Certified Laughter Yoga Leader. When she was 28 years old, her husband received a stage IV cancer diagnosis. That set of profound experiences provided firsthand knowledge which shaped her future and helped her discover a passion for helping people. Since 1996, Neidra has offered several natural healing modalities and means of self-empowerment for people desiring to better their health. She has served her communities by providing complimentary health research reports upon request, and continues to support others by volunteering services or offering them at reduced rates. Having been by the bedside of many dying individuals (including her own near-death experience at age 15), whether family, friend, or animal companion, Neidra feels she has a healthy perspective on death. It became clear that not everyone shares this outlook, or even talks much about death, so she sought means for people to have permission to express themselves. Enter: Death Cafe. Now as an experienced and trained End Of Life Doula/Death Doula, she supports the living as they are dying and their families through legacy creation, vigil planning, completing advance care directives, funeral preparations including home funerals (she is also a Home Funeral Guide and an Ordained Celebrant), caregiver support, and early grief work. Resulting from her professional training which she is continually expanding upon, experiences with death and the dying, and attending area Death Cafes for close to 4 years, Neidra believes that a Death Cafe is the perfect safe space to invite her community to come participate in enlightening conversations about death that inevitably lead many people to live their lives more fully. Death Cafe - Hillsborough was founded by Neidra in October 2018.
