About this Death Cafe

As part of Dying Matters Week, we will host an online (using Zoom) Death Cafe. Individuals will need to sign up using an eventbrite.

ACE - Action in Caerau and Ely will be hosting this event as part of Dying Matters Week (10-17 May)

At a Death Café people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. A Death Café is a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes - the topics are brought by any group members who have something to share or ask. At the beginning of our Death Café, you will be asked to share: your name & why you decided to attend. Everyone's thoughts and beliefs are welcome.

You can choose to participate by speaking, or just by listening to what others have to say. You will be encouraged to put your own boundaries in place and you can decide how little or much you get involved with discussion, whether you have your camera on or off, when you leave and what you decide to share with the group.

The objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'. Talking about death is not everyone's cup of tea (or coffee), in fact, most avoid the topic - a death café is a safe space for people to come together to talk about anything that relates to death and dying openly and honestly. For more information on what a 'Death Café' is, please visit https://deathcafe.com/.

As this event is taking place on Zoom, please find a comfortable spot at home with no distractions. Bring along your own cake & cup of tea and be sure to have a curiosity for conversation!

PLEASE NOTE: It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. If you are looking for grief support, please contact Kimberley who can signpost you onto more appropriate services.
