About this Death Cafe

A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion on all aspects of death, dying and living with no agenda, biases or themes. It is a discussion group that provides opportunity to share thoughts feelings, questions and concerns and to bring an often-taboo topic into the light.  A Death Cafe is not a grief support or counseling sessions. “The objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.”

 


About Barbara McGill

Barb McGill is a Candidate for Ministry in the United Church of Canada and a part time minister of Pastoral Care at Villages Rural Ministries. Her  focus is education, spiritual care, and social justice. She brings with her warmth, humour and a deep curiosity to all of her work.

Barb found her vocation through a strong sense of social justice through relationship, encounter and music. She trained first as a Music Therapist, Music Teacher and Montessori teacher and has worked in long term care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, preschools and in private practice. She found a home in The United Church of Canada in her mid-30’s as a chorister and later as a Children’s Choir director and Children and Youth Minister.

Barb leads with an authentic presence and lives out her faith in acts of compassion, caring and justice. She has a passion for life-long learning and creating safe spaces for people to connect.
