About this Death Cafe

Please join us in a relaxed setting to discuss death, drink tea, and eat cake.
This Death Café is part of the Salon Series at Zen Hospice, a new way to engage and inform our community on a range of innovative topics for living and dying well.

The Death Cafés are facilitated by Shelley R. Adler, PhD, Director of Education at Zen Hospice Project and UCSF Professor of Medical Anthropology, and Roy Remer, Director of Volunteer Services at Zen Hospice Project.

This event is open to all, but, because space is limited, RSVPs are required. We request a $5 donation to offset the expense of snacks and drinks. To RSVP or for more information, please contact Mira at mira@zenhospice.org

About Shelley Adler, PhD, and Roy Remer

Our Guest House in San Francisco provides a final home for people who are not able to die in their own homes. It is where our innovative approach to end-of-life care is put into action.

Our Volunteer Programs train and support a community of caring people as they serve those needing care, both at our Guest House and at Laguna Honda Hospital, the primary referral site for uninsured people in San Francisco.

Our Education workshops, classes, trainings, and consulting services teach people how to manage the challenges of aging, dying, and caregiving with skill and confidence.

All of our programs are rooted in the Buddhist tradition of compassionate action with the intention of alleviating suffering.  However, the expression of this vision is non-sectarian and based on universal principles that hold for all humanity.  We have successfully adapted our approach to serve culturally diverse communities through our work with community-based service organizations and healthcare providers.
