Hosting my first Death Cafe

Hello, It's a question for experienced cafe hosts to ask you, please, to share any hints or tips about how to host a successful event. I have not hosted one before but would very much like to. I've read the guide but I always think it helps to have personal advice from people who've been there and done it. Some do's and don'ts to make it a success would be great, if you are happy to share them. Many thanks Kate

Let the magic happen
I agree with everything Jon said. Really, it is simple. "What brought you here?" is a great starter. People come with a lot on their minds. Reviewing the basics beforehand to remind everyone to respect differences and to not try to convince others to a different way of thinking. My #1 piece of advice for everyone I talk to is to go with the flow.

Thanks for asking :)
I am sure there is lots of wisdom to share. My immediate thoughts are:
- Don't rush! There is no hurry to organise your Death Cafe quickly. If you take your time there is more chance of you organising a good event and enjoying the process of doing so
- Please do read the guide carefully, especially section 6. Death Cafes never have themes, agendas or guest speakers. The agenda is always set by attendees.
- Be prepared to do some promotion yourself. Listing yourself on the Death Cafe site is the first step in your promotional work but please be willing to identify and reach out to networks and media contacts. Of course only do this if you have the energy for it.
- Remember to breathe! I really mean that it is worthwhile to prioritise your own enjoyment of the Death Cafe. This might mean being mindful of your process and getting appropriate support.
- If you're unsure then 1. ask questions, 2. check the guide / this site and 3. trust your instinct :)

Dear Kate,
I too would very much like to organise one and don't really know where to start. Could you tell me where you plan to have yours and if it's within easy travelling distance, perhaps I could come along and see how it works for you! from scratch.
thank you
