I am a Certified Celebrant, creating personal ceremonies for memorials and end of life / celebration of life events. I want to start a Death Cafe. However I have no medical training and would love to find someone like a hospice volunteer who might like to co-host. Ideas? I'm in the Rocklin, CA area and have a venue selected in Auburn so anyone in the Placer county area who would be interested. Or can you suggest how I could find such a person? Thank you~!

Thank you Teddy for your response. I'm finding it hard to get this going but I have to remember it's baby steps. I appreciate the support.

Posted by Cindie WildingHi Cindie,
I was lucky enough to have the outreach coordinator of our local Hospice be a member of our group. I would suggest you call your local Hospice and see if they want to work with you
You could also contact Adec.org, an organization that trains Thanatologists (experts on death and dying)
and see if any of their members might be interested in helping you.
A funeral director might know someone too. Or a nearby hospital or nursing home.
Good luck with your Death Café!!!

Really, it doesn't have to be complicated. You do not need someone with medical training. This is not a grief group. The less facilitation, the better. There also should not be education either. Sometimes 'professionals' get itchy to share their knowledge and that is not appropriate for these events either. That being said, it is always helpful to have a co-host! Good luck :-) feel free to contact me directly if there is anything I can help with related to questions.
Posted by Columbus Death Cafe/Lizzy MilesI would be interested in talking about co-facilitating. I have just decided I would love to start a Death Cafe in Auburn and saw your post. I am not a hospice person but I have some experience that might fit well with yours.

I have been a hospice nurse for the last 16 years. I live in the Cameron Park area and would love to assist you with starting a Death Cafe in the area .
