Ice Breakers

I am hosting my first death cafe this week and would appreciate ideas of how to get a conversation going. I plan to start by reminding the participants that this is not a grief support group.  I thought I would then ask folks what inspired them to come to the cafe and then see where it goes.  Any suggestions  of how to start the conversation from more experienced practitioners?

Hi Beth

I start mine by going round the group and getting everyone to introduce themselves and say why they've come to Death Cafe today. That works well as people will often give a little background (one lady worked in a local hospital mortuary) and you can pick up on stuff from there, if someone else doesn't. After that people tend to get stuck in and carry the conversation themselves. I've never had a problem with the conversation drying up.
